Athira Krishna on the Importance of Co-curricular Activities in Schools – For ‘The Hindu’ Metro Plus-Voice your Views

An enlightening experience

School life plays an important role throughout the life of an individual. Hence, emphasis should be laid on students’ creative and academic pursuits. I came across some remarkable and adaptable educational systems in Germany as part of a concert tour. I interacted with students from different schools, and the institution heads introduced me to almost 500 students who are being given professional training in different fields such as music, dance and oratorical skills. Many among them aspire to take these activities as their profession. What struck me most was that they were offered equal opportunity for curricular and extra-curricular activities. After all, the true essence of life is to be creative.
